Where friends come together to let off steam

the poetry of Donald Rumsfeld

A Confession
Once in a while,
I’m standing here, doing something.
And I think,
“What in the world am I doing here?”
It’s a big surprise.

—May 16, 2001, interview with the New York Times

SIM cards

When I was at uni I shared a flat with a guy from Lebanon. I never gave him a SIM card. We didn’t have SIM cards back then.

I think I might have given him a capuccino-maker that I didn’t want any more.

Melburn Roubaix 2007

The Melbourne Roubaix: Hell of the Northcote returns in 2007. Due to other commitments I missed out in 2006 but this year I am a certain starter.

I am a climber so I am far too light for riding over cobbles. Consequently I will be acting as a domestique for Matt in an effort to guide him to victory in one of the world’s most prestigious one day races.* What goes around comes around so Matt will be my domestique for the first few climbs of the 2008 Alpine Classic.

Some nice photos of the 2006 Melbourne Roubaix

If you are not familiar with cycling history then the Melburn Roubaix pays homage to the Paris Roubaix which is the world’s permier one day cycling race. An Australian Stuart O’Grady is the regining champion.

*Actually the Melburn Roubaix is not prestigious. Its not even a race. Its all just a bit of fun.

on being a man, and snow.

There’s nothing like a bit of DIY mechanics to get your manliness back in order. I’m preparing for a trip to the snow so today I’ve changed the coolant and oil in my car. There was probably nothing wrong with the original coolant or oil but it’s better to be safe than sorry. I chose “Anti Freeze / Anti Boil” coolant so the sub-zero temperatures won’t crack my motor as well as 10-30W low viscosity oil as it won’t “stick” as much as regular oil. Hopefully this will mean after a week in the snow that I’ll be able to jump in my car and it’ll start without a hitch.  That’s the theory at least. I’ve never seen snow, well I have, but it was in England and France and I was 1yrs old, so I don’t remember it.

Thing’s I’m going to do in the snow (in no particular order):

  1. Eat it
  2. Piss on it (Will my torrent freeze instantly? What should I write?)
  3. Make a rude snowman
  4. Make a Snow Angel
  5. Ski it
  6. Toboggan it
  7. Maybe Snowboard it
  8. Shoot it (with my camera)
  9. Throw it at my sister
  10. Take some home in a jar.
  11. Make an igloo

Any further advice should be listed in the comments. Thanksyou.
